There’s an old saying by Wayne Dyer that goes, “our lives are a sum total of the choices we have made.” While working on our success, we often run into circumstances that we allow to stop us because we “can’t” get through them. The reality is, we’re usually choosing not to get through those obstacles. The following story shows the great difference that our mindset makes in these situations.
“Wake up, Shawn,” Anna said, shaking her son’s shoulder. “Wake up, it’s 7:00! You have to go to school!”
The teenager rolled over and mumbled something. Anna continued to shake him until he sat up.
“Okay, okay, I’m out,” Shawn said as he rolled out of bed.
“Shawn, we do this every day. Why can’t you just go to bed earlier?”
“Because it won’t matter. School starts too early. I just can’t get up that early.”
Anna left Shawn to get himself ready. Before heading downstairs, she peeked into her younger son’s bedroom. That’s when she came up with an idea.
The next morning, Anna crept into Shawn’s room. It was exactly one hour before he would have to wake up. The sun was barely shining through the windows. Anna moved closer to the bed and put a toy fire engine on the pillow.
“Fire!” she yelled. She turned on the toy’s siren. “Fire!”
Shawn’s eyes widened at the sound of an alarm blasting in his ear. First thing he saw was a flashing red light. The boy rolled out of bed and hit the floor. Instantly, he bolted out of the room.
Anna just laughed and laughed. Even more so when her son returned, shirtless and wearing his usual pajama pants with the right kneecap torn out.
“That wasn’t funny,” he muttered. “I thought that was a real fire.”
Anna composed herself and replied, “I thought you couldn’t wake up this early.”
The moral of the story is, we’ll hit a wall and claim that it’s too tall and wide to get through, but when the will is big enough, we’ll crash through that wall half-naked!
Make a nice day!
