Everybody knows that our society has a tendency to complain without even attempting to solve the problem. The following story is a humorous illustration of what people do. Might make you laugh and look at your complaints in a different way, might not.
Ray sat in front of the TV watching the Super Bowl. He was waiting on his dinner to finish cooking.
Eventually, a burning stench filled the room. Smoke was quickly flowing through the doorway. Ray scrambled out of his room and headed for the kitchen.
The burning smell was now so strong that he had to pinch his noise. When he reached the oven and opened it, his dinner and the aluminum foil was on fire! Thinking quickly, he put his oven mitts on and picked up the foil. Then he turned to carry it to the counter behind him.
The short counter had a stack of paper plates on top. In the center, there was a basket of fruit. A roll of paper towels was near the left end.
The flames suddenly hit Ray’s thumb, causing him to roughly drop the food on the counter. He shook his hand in pain and took the glove off. When the man looked at the counter, the fire had managed to reach the paper plates. Nearly half of the plates were burning.
Ray pulled out his cell phone and dialed a number.
“Hello?” came the voice on the other line.
“Diana,” he said frantically, “listen, I was cooking something and it got set on fire and then I dropped it and it spread, and now there’s a big fire in my kitchen!” The woman said nothing. “Diana, are you still there?”
“Yeah. I was just waiting on you to finish talking.”
“I am finished.”
“Well, throw some water on the fire.”
“That’s it? My kitchen is on fire and that’s all you got to say to me?”
“Didn’t you call me for advice?”
Ray questioningly looked at the phone for a moment. He then hung up and called another number.
“Zack, it’s Ray. There’s a big fire in my kitchen!”
“So what are you calling me for?! Put it out or call the fire department!”
Ray ended the call in frustration. He then dialed several more numbers. Everyone made suggestions on how to put out the flames.
“Hey, this is George.”
“George, this is Ray. There’s a fire in my kitchen!”
“Really? What happened?”
“I was cooking some steak and I left it in the oven for too long. Then when I took it out, I dropped it on the counter. Now the fire is spreading.”
“Yeah. There’s fire all over the paper plates and… AAAARRRGGGHH!”
“Now the paper towels are on fire! I can’t believe I’m missing the Super Bowl for this! This stupid fire better be gone by the time the halftime show comes on! Oh, and I got burned!”
“That fire burned right through the glove, too!”
“Yes, way! And it hurts, bad!”
Ray and George proceeded to talk on the phone. Meanwhile, the fire continued to grow.
Make a nice day!
